The PVS Virtual Internship Program

In today’s industry landscape many students, especially in creative fields, are hard-pressed to find opportunities to gain real-world experience and training to supplement their higher education and career development. Prime Vice Studios has established its Virtual Internship Program to give opportunities to talented students who wish to gain valuable experience and earn academic credit for their efforts.
This interview series seeks to highlight our interns, share their testimonials, and assist them on their creative journey. This interview highlights the terrifically talented Morgan Eaves.

About The Creator

Morgan is a 2D illustrator based out of Georgia. She graduated from Kennesaw State University with a BFA with a concentration in digital animation. Her main passion lies with visual development and she hopes to follow concept art as a career.

Interview

Thank you for doing this interview Morgan. Please share a bit about yourself and why you chose to do an internship with PVS.

I’m a 2D visual artist based out of Georgia, with a passion for bringing characters and environments to life. I was born and raised in Colorado until I moved to Marietta, Georgia when I was 10. Growing up I’ve always had a passion for art, creating, and video games. While I’m not drawing I also enjoy reading, crocheting, and playing guitar. My dream career is to do concept art for video games while doing freelance on the side. I’ve always loved looking at the bonus concept arts within games to see the process and how these worlds were brought to life. Some of my favorite video games include The Last of Us, The Evil Within, Death Stranding, and Cyberpunk 2077. The passion behind the games shown within the storytelling, environments, and characters is overall what inspired me to want to be a concept artist.

PVS Internship Experience

What was your experience with PVS  like?

I mainly did the internship because I saw it as a great way to get professional hands-on experience and work with people who have similar creative passions. It also provided a great opportunity to learn a new organized process for character and world development.

I had Mr. Perez as a professor for my painting class and I learned a lot of valuable information from him about intellectual property (IP) protection, marketing yourself, and different steps to follow to get those good ideas on paper.

Knowledge & Skills Acquired

Throughout the internship, I was able to pick up and learn various skills that I was able to apply to my planning process for character development and environments.

Pivotal Moments of The Internship

Please share a story highlighting a pivotal moment of the internship.

One thing I really enjoyed about the internship was being able to network and connect with fellow artists. I enjoyed going to the workshops and learning about others’ ideas and what their processes are like. I was one of the few animation majors out of mostly illustrators and it was interesting to hear how they approached their projects versus the steps I took for mine.

Attending the workshops at Syndicate Comics was one of my favorite parts of the internship. With the main subject being comic creation, it was inspiring to sit in a room full of beautifully illustrated comics and look at the various drawings and storytelling techniques. They were really motivating for me especially if I was in an art block. I’d get to discuss future goals and ideas and gain valuable feedback from creative peers. There were always things to learn and discuss at the workshops.

Vision For The Future

Imagine us sitting down together two years from now or further looking back. What specific accomplishments would have to happen for you to be happy with your progress? What do you hope your comics and IP will do in the world?

Looking ahead, my future goals consist of having a portfolio of finished professional quality pieces that I can be proud of. Another goal I’m really hoping to achieve by then is to have an art job of some kind, but, ultimately, I’m driven by a desire to grow and improve my illustrations.

Advice For Creators & Future Interns

Who would you recommend should do this internship and what advice would you give them?

I think this internship is for anyone with a creative passion who wants to learn and be able to make something out of it. This internship is great for being around other creatives, getting constructive feedback, and networking. PVS has something for anyone of all ages, but this internship provides an exceptional opportunity for students looking to get professional experience and knowledge. I have met many great people from this internship and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve with comic creation or even for character and world development.

Final Thoughts & Follow Up

What type of clients, and audience do you want to connect with or work for?

I want to work with clients who have a clear vision and are passionate about their ideas but also support creative expression. I enjoy collaborating with people and combining their ideas and mine to create art.

Thank you again for providing this great testimonial, Morgan. You’re an  awesome talent well on your way to achieving all of the success you deserve.

About The Creator

Jaliyah is a 2D illustrator with a passion for storytelling. She loves to develop different stories and create characters. Currently, she is working on her comic “Inconvenience” during her time in college.

Interview

Thank you for doing this interview Jaliyah. Please share a bit about yourself.

I’m an artist that wants to “do it all” when it comes to art. Currently, I’m a graphic design and game design major in college, but I have taken my own measures to learn more. I have a huge interest in illustration and script writing/narrative development in particular, but I do enjoy experimenting with animation, pixel art, and a few other mediums of artistic representation. I aim to make fun and simple stories that people will enjoy. Overall, I am constantly hungry for artistic knowledge and will continue to learn new skills.

I’ve been in Atlanta all my life, and, at first, I had no idea what I wanted to do. What I did know, however, was that I loved watching animated shows and playing fun games growing up. As I watched my older brother draw, I decided to try it out for myself. From there, I took an interest in reading as well, and those interests combined to make me enjoy learning what I do today: writing scripts and drawing or animating them.

PVS Internship Experience

Jaliyah, what your experience with PVS
and why did you chose to do an internship with PVS?

My experience was great! I communicated with Carlos and we would review my comic’s development process consistently. I had an interest in getting started with internships and apprenticeships early, so when I saw Prime Vice Studios’ internship, it was like a blessing in disguise for me. Even more so, my interest peaked when it came to the fact that Prime Vice Studios would help me develop my own comic idea.

Knowledge & Skills Acquired

The most interesting stories weren’t anything major, but honestly changing for me as I had the chance to learn about presentation pitches for comics and books.

Pivotal Moments of The Internship

Please share a story of a significant moment during your internship.

During my time in the internship, I made more progress on my ideas and comics than I ever had in the past five years. I consistently worked on the script ideas and visual development much more than I ever had before.

We often learn the most from our mistakes. Can you share a mistake you made that turned out to be one of the most valuable lessons you’ve learned?

One mistake I learned from the most is to be consistent and communicate. I unfortunately was burned out, and that made me lag behind on work and made me avoid communication. However, Carlos helped me realize that communication was huge and beneficial for recovery.

Vision for the Future

Imagine us sitting down together two years from now or further looking back. What do you hope your comics and IP will do in the world?

I hope it will inspire others to create their stories and share them as well as foster new relationships with fellow storytellers.

Final Thoughts & Follow Up

What type of clients and audience do you want to connect with or work for?
I would love to work with clients and audiences who simply want to see a story come to life through visual development and/or script. In general, individual writers or publishers who are in need of illustrations or comics.

This was great. Thanks for taking the time for us to learn more about you and your art. We wish you continued success!
