The PVS Virtual Internship ProgramIn today’s industry landscape many art students are hard-pressed to find opportunities to gain real world experience and training to supplement their higher education and career development. Prime Vice Studios has established its Virtual Internship Program to give opportunity to talented students who wish to gain valuable experience and/ or earn academic credit for their efforts. This interview series seeks to highlight our interns, share their testimonials and assist them on their creative journey. Jasmin CooperAbout The CreatorJasmin Cooper is an aspiring animator and rigging artist, known for her love of flowers, stars, bright colors, smiley faces, and anything that she considers cute. InterviewThank you so much for providing your testimonial. Our readers want to know you a bit better. Tell us about yourself and what you would like the world to know about you as an artist/ creator. Hi! My name is Jasmin Cooper. I am the one girl who you see wearing flowers around campus. I am an animator and aspiring rigging artist, wanting to be proficient with it both 2D and 3D-wise. My go-to style is cartoony, and I like to draw cute and stylish girls. I grew up more down south at Palmetto, Georgia, and when I was younger, I initially wanted to have a STEM-type career, such as a robotics engineer. That slowly changed as I have gotten older, as once I was in high school, I got more interested in art. It wasn't like I wasn't drawing since I was young. I watched countless media revolving around art, animation, and even watched some critique channels. It was just that I thought of it as a hobby, but it was accumulating tons of animated media that caught my interest in doing it as a job. During my Junior year of high school, I took an Animation course out of curiosity, and it was a ton of fun. I met some cool people there and got an introduction to Adobe software. I think it was doing this that I watched a playthrough of a horror game with a distinctive, cute 2D character style with a 3D background, and thinking about how I wanted to animate similarly to that. This strengthened my resolve to pursue being an animator. PVS Internship ExperienceThank you for sharing Jasmin. Please tell us why did you do an internship with PVS? I did an internship with Prime Vice Studios because I wanted more industry and freelance experience while also learn how to character rig. I already knew Carlos as a previous professor whom I had, it was a plus as I already knew him and trusted him to help with my goals. What were some of your highlights during your internship? Some pretty good highlights while interning for Prime Vice Studios was when I was creating my characters and their world while getting advice on it. Such as Carlos recommending that I consider the climate and region of the Arizonian deserts when considering plant-life for world-building. There was also a time when Carlos posted an online course from Yellowbrick, Sony Pictures Animation, and Sony Pictures Imagineworks called This is Animation, which I decided to do with my internship. It was really helpful and fun to go through. But most of my highlights are from when I was learning how to rig; it was just constant researching, tutorials, and trial and error on my end. Vision For The FutureImagine we’re sitting down together two years from now or further looking back. What specific accomplishments would have to happen for you to be happy with your progress? I would be pretty proud of myself for pushing through, creating my characters unique to my usual style, and trying to rig them. As I feel, I would have given up or pushed it further if I were to do this entirely by myself. What do you hope your art/ IPs will do in the world? I genuinely hope that if my characters and their story become a short film, it will find its audience and make them happy. Advice For Creators & Future InternsWho do you think should do or would you recommend for this internship? I believe that any artist or animator who wants to develop a story, specialize in one of the IP creation processes, or just wants to build experience should join this internship (an extra plus if they are interested in freelancing). I would love to spread the word about this opportunity and will try my best to. Some advice I would give to those who are interested is to interact with the community revolving around Prime Vice Studios, talk to others on the Discord, or join Carlos at Syndicate Comics. The people here are nice and cool to be with, and it's easy to ask advice from them if needed. Final Thoughts & Follow UpThank you for your sharing your thoughts Jasmin. As we wrap up this interview please tell us what type of clients and/or audience you want to connect with or work for? I would like to see people interested in indie productions for films, shows, games, and other animators/artists that would like to network. This was great. Thanks for taking time for us to learn more about you and your art. We wish you continued success! How can our readers follow up with you or contact you?
