Sol-Con/ CXC 2017

We were invited to participate at this year’s Sol-Con and the sister convention Columbus Cartoon Crossroads. We had the honor to showcase our work, teach a youth art workshop and be part of several panels.

Sol-Con is the Black and Brown Comix Expo founded by professors Dr. Frederick Aldama and John Jennings. This convention has been established to celebrate diversity in comics and give a platform for marginalized voices to surface.

Columbus Cartoon Crossroads (CxC), an integrated partner in this weekend's events is an annual festival that provides an international showcase for the best of cartoon art in all its forms, including comics, animation, editorial cartoons, newspaper strips, and beyond. They also focus on helping the next generation of young cartooning talent develop thriving careers that invigorate the industry for years to come.

We participated on several panels:

Scholars & Artists Unite- a discussion with creators who are also involved with academics.

Creators of Color and Industry- a discussion where creators shared their industry insights and professional experiences.

Gender & Sexuality and People of Color in Comics- a discussion about issues about gender, sexuality in relation to people of color in comics

This year also happened to be the 40th anniversary of the Billy Ireland Museum which houses the world's largestWe were invited to participate at this year’s Sol-Con and the sister convention Columbus Cartoon Crossroads.
